# Sales Posting Method

> Choose how your Shopify sales are recorded in e-conomic: one invoice per order, or grouped summaries

The Sales Posting Method decides how your Shopify transactions are recorded in e-conomic. You find it at the top of the **Sales Posting Setup** page.

<Tip>
  Click **How it works** in the top right corner of the page to see a short explanation of the setup directly inside the app.
</Tip>

## The two modes

| Mode | What it does | Best for |
| --------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Individual Order Mode** (recommended) | Creates one e-conomic invoice for every Shopify order, with full line-item details (each product, price, and tax on the invoice) | Shops that want detailed reconciliation and a full invoice trail for every order |
| **Sales Summary Mode** | Groups your sales into periodic summaries (for example one entry per day) and posts them as journal entries | Shops with many small orders that want to keep the e-conomic ledger clean instead of filling it with hundreds of invoices |

## Switching between modes

When you click the other mode, a confirmation popup appears: **Change Push Method?**

The popup warns you that switching between Individual and Summary mode changes how your **future** sales data is posted to e-conomic. Data that has already been pushed to e-conomic is not affected and stays as it is.

Click **Confirm and Continue** to switch, or **Cancel** to keep your current mode.

## Configuring Sales Summary Mode

If you choose Sales Summary Mode, a configuration page opens. Fill in the following sections and click **Save**.

### Transfer Frequency

Choose how often your sales should be grouped and sent to e-conomic:

* **Daily** – one summary entry per day
* **Weekly** – one summary entry per week
* **Monthly** – one summary entry per month

The sales for the selected period are pushed to your e-conomic journal as a **draft entry**, meaning nothing is booked automatically — you (or your accountant) review and book the entry in e-conomic.

### Journal Configuration for Sales Summary

These four fields tell the app where in e-conomic the summary entries should be recorded. If you are unsure, ask your accountant.

* **Journal** – the journal in e-conomic where the summary entries are posted, for example a journal named "Webshop".
* **Contra Account (Shopify Clearing Account)** – the offset account for the entries. This is a temporary "waiting" account that holds the sales amount until the money arrives in your bank. Often called a Shopify clearing account.
* **Revenue Account** – the account where your product sales are recorded as income.
* **Gift Card Liability Account** – the account that holds the value of sold gift cards until the customer redeems them. Money from a sold gift card is not revenue yet — it becomes revenue when the gift card is used.

<Warning>
  Choosing the wrong Gift Card Liability Account can cause incorrect revenue reporting. If you sell gift cards, confirm this account with your accountant.
</Warning>

### Splitting & Grouping

**Split summaries by payment method** – if you tick this box, the app creates a separate journal entry for each payment method you select. Payment methods you do not select are combined into one common entry. This makes it easier to reconcile each payment provider's payout against its own entry.

When you tick the box, two new sections appear:

* **Select payment methods to split** – a row of payment method buttons, for example Cash, Klarna, Credit Card, Shopify Pay, PayPal, and Amazon. Click a payment method to select it. Each selected method gets its own separate journal entry.
* **Configure accounts per method** – once you have selected one or more payment methods, this section lets you choose which e-conomic account each method posts to. This is useful because each payment provider pays out to you separately, so booking each one against its own account makes bank reconciliation much simpler. Until you select a payment method, this section shows "No payment methods selected for splitting."

### OSS (One-Stop-Shop) Configuration

This section controls how VAT is split in your journal entries when you sell to other countries.

* **If you do not select any country:** the journal entries are automatically divided into three groups based on VAT codes — Domestic, EU, and non-EU (Abroad).
* **Country-Specific VAT Code:** tick this box if certain countries need their own special VAT code. All other countries continue to use your standard logic above. This is relevant if you are registered for OSS (the EU scheme for reporting VAT on sales to consumers in other EU countries).

When you tick **Country-Specific VAT Code**, two settings appear:

* **Business Country Selection** – the country where your business is registered, for example Denmark. Sales to this country are treated as domestic.
* **Country Assignments** – click **Add Country assignment** to add a country and assign it the VAT code it should use. Repeat for each country that needs special treatment. All countries you do not add continue to follow your standard Domestic/EU/Abroad logic.

When everything is filled in, click **Save**.
